Chinese Calligraphy

Course Description: Chinese calligraphy is a unique gem of Chinese culture. It crosses the boundary of practical daily use and artistic form. Through his or her inked lines, the writer communicates feelings and ideals. The ultimate inspiration of Chinese calligraphy is balance, a fundamental concept in Chinese culture. This course emphasizes the practice of calligraphy and combines the study of culture and language with an appreciation of Chinese civilization. Students will learn the basic elements of concentration, brush holding, paper and ink, and writing. The course is designed for beginners, but those with experience in Chinese or in calligraphy are also welcome.
